Enemies realistically bump into each other, and the camera even pulls back to occasionally show some cool finishing blows. Fights feels dynamic and exciting, and they focus on movement just as much as the rest of the game.
Then I’d run up a wall, turn around, jump off, and kick the last baddie in the face. I’d then kick another bad guy on his side, sending him over an edge. Here’s a typical battle I would have: I’d jump off a ledge, land on one enemy, and take him out immediately. Catalyst has a new melee system that’s all about environmental fighting. The shooting felt out of place, and event the gun-free fighting felt simple.
While you could fight off enemies with melee strikes, you could also pick up guns and shoot them. Even after beating the campaign, I still want to go back and clear the map.Ĭombat was the original Mirror’s Edge’s biggest problem. This is the kind of open world experience where I had more fun just exploring and doing side activities than following the main story, and Catalyst is littered with additional objectives. Open worlds require a lot travelling, and moving around is the game’s core mechanic. The open world structure is familiar to anyone who’s played modern games in the last 10 years, but it suits Mirror’s Edge. Like most open world games, you can run to story missions or distract yourself with side-activities.

Catalyst’s open world gives you a giant space full of rooftops to explore. Studio head Glen Schofield, who served as an executive producer of the Dead Space series, wants The Callisto Protocol to be the scariest game on current-gen hardware. Being developed by Striking Distance Studios, the game is looking to fill a gap in the horror genre left since the release of Dead Space 3 in 2013.

Meanwhile, Dead Space fans may be able to scratch that itch as the creator of the series is now working on a spiritual successor to the game with The Callisto Protocol. The series once again went dormant, and while fans have voiced interest in another Mirror's Edge game, EA has remained quiet as it is currently focusing on Star Wars, Battlefield, and the much-anticipated Dragon Age 4, as well as several yearly sports titles.

While Dead Space quickly became a fan favorite and received multiple sequels, Mirror's Edge was left out, with the franchise remaining dormant until EA announced the prequel Mirror's Edge Catalyst, which was launched in 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One.ĭespite being liked by fans when it was released, Mirror's Edge Catalyst didn't preform well sales-wise, according to EA's expectations. However, the initiative was short lived, as EA changed its tune and quickly focused on games with microtransactions as a major focal point. All three games were received well by fans and critics alike, with each game offering vastly different experiences. Mirror's Edge 2, a sequel that was canned in 2011 by EA, made it as far as the prototyping stage before development stopped. Faith's look is similar to her original outing, with the officer in full body armor. Revealed in a YouTube video by V., the brief footage showcases protagonist Faith taking down a police officer and looking onto a vast city landscape. Footage of an unreleased sequel to Mirror's Edge has resurfaced, giving fans a glimpse of what was planned for the Mirror's Edge series nearly a decade ago.
